Description
This delightful brioche bread pudding is rich, creamy, and topped with a delicious homemade toffee sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups stale brioche or challah bread, cubed
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup pure maple syrup
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish and arrange the cubed bread evenly.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, maple syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter until well combined.
- Pour the mixture over the bread cubes and gently toss to coat. Let sit for 15 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the custard.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and set in the middle.
- While baking, prepare the toffee sauce by warming additional maple syrup with heavy cream in a small saucepan over low heat.
- Allow the pudding to cool slightly before cutting into squares. Serve drizzled with homemade toffee sauce.
Notes
- This dish benefits from day-old bread, which helps absorb the custard better.
- For extra flavor, add nuts or dried fruits to the mixture before baking.
