Description
Delicious homemade sourdough donuts with a sweet glaze.
Ingredients

- 3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup sourdough discard (6 ounces)
- 3/4 cup whole milk (6 ounces)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 3 1/3 cups all-purpose flour (15 ounces), plus more for dusting
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions
- Warm the milk and activate the yeast by stirring in sugar and sprinkling yeast over the top. Let sit for 5 minutes.
- Combine melted butter, sourdough discard, eggs, and a pinch of salt in a mixing bowl.
- Add flour in three batches, mixing until just combined.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and refrigerate for 1-2 hours or overnight.
- Roll the chilled dough to 1/2 inch thickness and cut out donuts.
- Cover the donuts and allow them to rise for about 45-60 minutes.
- Heat oil to 350°F and fry donuts for about 1 minute per side until golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels and dip in the prepared glaze.
- Enjoy warm or store leftovers at room temperature.
Notes
- Make sure to sift the powdered sugar before using.
- Donuts are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored at room temperature for a couple of days.
