Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Pink gel food coloring
  • Valentine sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Cream the Base
    Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla and mix until smooth.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients
    Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix into wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  3. Divide and Color Dough
    Divide dough in half. Leave one plain and tint the other pink.
  4. Shape the Cookies
    Roll plain dough into balls and flatten slightly. Roll pink dough into thin ropes and form heart borders.
  5. Decorate
    Gently press sprinkles into the center of each cookie.
  6. Chill
    Refrigerate shaped cookies for 30 minutes.
  7. Bake
    Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–12 minutes until edges are set.
  8. Cool
    Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack.
